Self Test -
How's My Driving?

Stay Alert To Changes

Everyone wants to maintain their mobility to go where they want, when they want. This is especially true as we grow older and enjoy more leisure time. Pay attention to the following warning signs that may indicate a need to reassess your driving.

  • Friends and family members express concern about your driving.

  • Increased frequency of traffic tickets or police warnings.
  • Involvement in near misses or traffic crashes becoming more commonplace.

  • A health care professional has advised you to restrict or stop driving.

Tips For Staying Safe Behind the Wheel

  • Listen to the advice of those you trust: family, friends and/or your physician.

  • Take a driver refresher course (such as AARP’s 55 Alive Driver Safety Program) to refresh your knowledge of safe driving practices, and to learn about new traffic control devices and signs.

  • Discuss driving with your doctor or pharmacist. Ask how medications you are taking may affect your driving.

  • Begin planning your eventual retirement from driving. Explore your community’s transportation and residential options.
